Dooryard dock is a tall, sturdy perennial with large, wavy-edged leaves. It thrives around people in yards, roadsides, fields, pastures, shores and other disturbed ground. In summer it carries dense, almost leafless clusters of tiny greenish flowers that turn into dark brown three‑edged seeds which often remain standing through winter.
