About the species

Identification

A low perennial, usually 10–25 cm tall, with upright smooth stems. Leaves stand on long smooth stalks; each leaf is divided into three toothed parts and can flush reddish in strong sun. Flowers are usually 1–2 per stem, on long stalks, with 6–9 rose-red petals and about 1.5–2.5 cm across. The fruit is a red to deep wine-red raspberry-like cluster of many small juicy pieces. Without flowers it can resemble stone bramble, which has white flowers and later only a few larger shiny red berries. Flowers in Finland from June to August.
