About the species
Identification
Low, mat‑forming plant with creeping runners that root where they touch the ground. Flower stalks rise up to about 20 cm and carry a round head of many narrow, white, sweet‑scented flowers that age to pale brown. Leaves on long stalks; each leaf has three rounded little leaves, smooth and often with a pale band. Leaf edges are faintly toothed, undersides shiny. Tell it from similar clovers by the creeping runners and pale V marks; alsike and red clover are more upright and usually have pink to red heads. Flowers in Finland June–August.
