Unspotted Lungwort is a small, early-flowering plant of rich, shady woods in Europe. It is hairy all over, with flowers that open pinkish-red and turn blue as they age. You may also see it on woodland edges and old meadows, and it is sometimes grown in gardens.

About the species
Identification
Perennial 10–30 cm, softly bristly. Stems branch from the base. Two leaf types: on the spring flower shoot the leaves are narrow and without stalks; in summer a low circle of long-stalked leaves grows from a creeping underground stem; these are large, broadly heart-shaped with a pointed tip and plain green (no pale spots). Flowers are in loose, one-sided curls; about 1.5 cm long, funnel-shaped, opening pink to red and turning blue. Seeds come in fours; each small and dark with a pale tip that attracts ants. Differs from garden Spotted Lungwort, which has white-speckled leaves. Flowers in Finland in May–June.
