About the species

Identification

Upright plant 20–70 cm tall, usually unbranched, the stem often brownish‑red. Leaves sit in pairs, narrow and pointed, with dark speckles; the upper ones may slightly clasp the stem. Small yellow flowers (petals about 4–5 mm) form dense tufts at the base of the upper leaves along the stem. Petal tips often have red‑black dots, and the pollen threads stick out beyond the petals. After flowering, it makes tiny round seed cases (about 2–3 mm). Unlike other yellow loosestrifes with big heads at the stem top, this species has many side tufts. Flowers in Finland from June to August.
