About the species

Identification

Low perennial forming patches from runners. Flowering stems 5–30 cm, upright, unbranched and woolly. Leaves mostly in a small ground-level rosette: spoon-shaped, green on top and densely white-felted underneath; a few narrow felted leaves sit on the stem. Flower heads are small (about 5–8 mm), in a tight cluster of 2–8 on short, hairy stalks. The papery tips around each head are white or pink: male plants look mostly white, females pink. After flowering, small seeds carry a silky tuft. Differs from the larger alpine pussytoes by its mat-forming runners. Flowers in June–July; in the fells also into August.
