About the species

Identification

10–40 cm tall, soft‑hairy, usually branching near the top. A low rosette of leaves at the base; upper leaves sit directly on the stem. Leaves narrow oval, pale green, with smooth edges. Flowers very small (about 3–4 mm across), pale blue with a yellow center, arranged along a one‑sided curved spray that uncoils as they open. After flowering, each tiny stalk becomes about twice as long as the small green cup behind the flower and points upward; the cup stays mostly closed around the developing seeds. Fruits are four shiny black seeds. Flowers in Finland from June to September.
